66445At first, you say that you‘ll only try it. You don’t even take off your shoes. The others are standing around barefoot. You‘re hugging the tree and then slowly you turn to face the line. You place your feet on the line, one after the other, while still holding on to the trunk of the tree. Then you take your first step. You inch forward and then...fall. After that, you try to outwit gravity and start running on the line. You end up one step farther but the fall is even worse. So you think, „How can these people do it?“. You watch them moving forwards, backwards, to the side, as well as sitting or kneeling. All on a piece of webbing called a slack line.

A group of people who are enthusiastic about slacklining asked SINGING ROCK for support. Since we are also crazy about it, we decided to help them. We supplied them with standard length slack line, 60-metre-long webbing, steel carabiners, slings, pulleys, double hollow webbing and a highline set.

SLACK LINE
It was rock climbers who first had the idea some twenty years ago of stringing up nylon webbing and walking on it. The story goes that there were two guys in Yosemite Valley messing around and balancing on a parking lot chain on a rainy day. Balancing on the webbing took over their lives for several years. They were practicing new tricks and pushing each others to higher and higher levels of balancing feats. They would spend all of their time walking on the slackline and sharing it with others. Slacklining greatly improves your sense of balance while pushing your physical and mental abilities to the limit.

A flat piece of climbing webbing strung between 2 trees or other anchors for the purpose of walking/balancing on. Slacklines are usually tensioned with carabiners, pulleys, ratchets.

Nowadays is slacklining separate into two streams:
One of them is called trickling (Trick line) or freestyle when you balance close to the ground therefore is sometimes called also lowlining. A climbing webbing strung between two trees or other anchors close to the ground (sometimes above water). When we catch the balance it’s time to try the tricks, turning around, sitting down, laying down and etc. up to more difficult trics as a flip. Tricklining is becoming a lifestyle likewise skateboarding, snowboarding, freeriding etc. because of the freedom and fun.

Types of slackline

  • Trickline or Lowline – shorter slackline, close to the ground for beginners or for practising tricks and stunts. For this kind of line is most common used nylon webbing streched tight high as your hips or knees because of better taking up and also easier jumping off.
  • Longline - long slackline
  • Highline - slackline at a high elevation, possibility with a belay or without-solo

Highline is nylon webbing stretched tight in highs between two rocks, above water or other exposed locations to walk on. Nowadays slackliners search for the best exposed locations all over the world but the most known stays passing Lost Arow Spire in Yosemity national park or walking in rock’s town Bisik near by Teplice Rocks (worldwide honoured especially in Litomerice region).

The webbing of highline is strung much higher compare lowline - from six meters to thousand meters off the ground. In this case a slacker must work not only with his body balance but also with balance of his mind (psychic barrier). Therefore this type of slacklining fits experienced professionals who are purpose trained and drilled. They have control over their body balance, mind balance, moral courage and have technical knowledge for example how to stead and tighten a webbing or a safety rope.
When using trees for anchors is necessity to protect the trees by padding the area of contact with carpet or other sturdy material.
Proper place for streching a slackline is an straight area clear of sharp objects--smooth grassy areas are ideal – between two trees. In hazardous places is better to use for your safety crashpads.
